Shades of Sunshine Quilties: Norma Bullen

Norma Bullen from Victoria, AUSTRALIA has sent in her shades of sunshine quilties due September 20th! Norma wrote me that she thoroughly enjoyed this swap as it kept her thinking beyond her normal range. That is so great!

Norma added some directions for us, too. She wrote that she started by making a sheet of fabric paper with serviettes (paper napkins)magazine clippings, other photos, paint, stamps, etc. She hand painted white panne velvet with dye-na-flow paints by Jacquard in hot pink, yellow & scarlet. Norma said she loved how that came out -- me too! Then Norma copied her fabric paper collage onto printer fabric and cut out portions to used, teamed them up with Alpha Stamps fabric images from the bathing beauty sheet. Next, she machine quilted the background, and embellished with hand painted lace, beads & flowers. The "lifesaver" is a washer covered with sparkly threads. The words were printed with a clear dyno labeler and Norma says they came from the depths of her brain : ^ )

White Quilties! ~ Norma Bullen

From Norma Bullen, 1/2 way across the world in Australia . . . WOW! Norma has sent 5 beautiful Shades of White quilties - 4 for the swap, and 1 more for me; thank you so much Norma. I know this is not an easy thing to do - to make an extra quiltie! I appreciate it very much. Now I have to decide which one - oh dear!

Norma wrote and said she was a little worried there might be too much colour in these; but she hoped that the pale shades she used would be fine. They are and I love them. This is a "shades of white" theme. You can do whites in varying shades, or you can do white with other pale shades,colors that have been "whited out" . . . whatever looks like "shades of white" to you. Have fun with it and let the challange of the theme stretch you.

Norma writes, "I bought a bundle of Handkercheifs from an opportunity (OP) shop for $3.00 Australian. That is OP = Thrift shop, I think that is what you call them? (yes!) I attached them to hide the backs (of the quilties) but they can be removed and used again if anyone wants to do so."

Mother Goose ATCs - Norma Bullen, Australia

From Norma Bullen in Australia, some wonderful Mother Goose ATCs have arrived on the theme of: 'The Queen of Hearts' -mixed together with "the little dog laughed to see such sport!" Norma has made a pocket in her ATCs to hide the dog & the saying, how fun! She used images from an Alpha Stamps fabric sheet - Queen of Hearts #1. I love the red thread and embellishments Norma used, but especially the little dog!

Garden ATCs - Norma Bullen, Australia

Wow! Another package in the mail from Australia came today! This one is from Norma Bullen in Langwarrin. Norma writes that these ATCs are her idea of a "walled" garden or even a garden path. I like looking into the center of her ATCs where she sewed tiny flower sequins - click on any photo for more detail. Very cool interpretation, thanks so much for playing! Norma sent some awesome kangaroo fabric too, as well as a few American $$ leftover from a trip she took, to go towards the return postage, fantastic! So glad you signed up, lenna ; ^ )
