It is with great regret that I share with you, one of my long-time swap participants has passed away. Vicky Martindale suffered a stroke Christmas Day 2010, then fell into a hemorrhagic coma where she remained until her passing yesterday. Vicky had participated in many of my creative swaps, her last one being the Mail Art swap in December. You may have a piece of Vicky's art in your collection. Lori Lee, a good friend of Vicky's, had let me know earlier this year that Vicky was in a coma. Lori also passed along a site where I could sign up for updates on Vicky's status. Today, I sadly learned that she passed away late last night.
Vicky was a participant in my swaps since at least 2004, maybe sooner - I don't I have a record of my earliest swaps. To honor her, I have put together a slide show of her swap art from 2004-2010. She created some wonderful pieces and was very prolific. I think I can safely estimate she was involved in 15-20 of my art swaps, always supporting me and sending kind words. I did not know her very well, as we did not email each other much, but I will always remember her art and her kindness with love, lenna

Alice in Wonderland ATC swap: Vicky Martindale, Michigan
This is Vicky Martindale's 7th swap here at creative swaps, and she also participated in many other swaps I hosted before I even started this blog : ) For our Alice in Wonderland swap, Vicky has sent in some lovely dimensional ATCs. Many feature playing cards that are cut out and not glued flat to her base, but are hovering above the surface via foam tape. It is a great effect!
For her ATCs, Vicky relied on the wonderful images from the Mad Hatter's Teaparty #1 available at Alpha Stamps, who is sponsoring this swap. A bit of trivia, Vicky sent me a note with her ATCs telling me she had visited the Detroit institute of Arts and saw a painting by my Great Uncle, William Glackens, "The Promenade" (1927). This is a painting of William's daughter, my namesake, Lenna Glackens! Thank you for sharing that, Vicky! I have a recent post about William Glackens on my creative lenna blog - if you'd like to learn more.

Altered by Design ATC swap: Vicky Martindale

From Vicky Martindale in Michigan - so yummy! I have many, many posts of newly sent in ATCs to upload on this last day of the swap, so you may find me less descriptive than usual . . . This does not mean I am any less excited about these packages! This has been a wonderful swap. As soon as I finish uploading I am going to email Carol Murphy who is sponsoring this swap. All of the images we are using are from her company: Altered by Design which can be found for sale at Joggles.com. She will look at all of the entries and pick the most creative and award a first prize of a copy of Bernie Berlin’s fabulous book the Artist Trading card Workshop. WOW! Now here are some more views of Vicky's wonderful work: click on any picture for more detail.

Alpha Stamp/Tallulah's Swap: Vicky Martindale
WOW! This is my last upload for the Tallulah's swap -- ALL of the packages arrived by the deadline (3/22) and in fact, 12 packages arrived between Friday & Saturday, yikes! It took me a while to scan them & get them up here. This last upload is from Vicky Martindale in Sterling Heights, MI. Vicky has participated in MANY of my art swaps. I know she was a participant at least 4 years ago when I hosted a number of swaps - not through this blog. Some of them are still up on my website if you'd like to look. The art is inspiring.
Vicky has sent in 6 delicious postcards for our swap using Alpha Stamps/Tallulah's images from the 20 Beauties sheet. I like the square shape of these images. Vicky has added a very fine netting over the images and it's really delightful.

From a long-time swap participant of mine, Vicky Martindale in Michigan, we have 3 awesome ATC Valentine ornaments plus an extra one for me - thank you! Vicky used embossed felt and images from the new Valentine Bird Hearts sheet found here at Alpha Stamps.I recently ordered this sheet (designed by Amber Gibbs) and was glad to see how Vicky used it, as I have not made time to play around with mine yet! I simply loved Amber's images -very cool. You can see all of Vicky's ornaments that she sent in, below -of course, click on the smaller thumbnail for a larger view.
