#45. Betty Lou Cassidy - Little Book swap!

From Betty Lou in New Jersey, USA, who jumped in when someone else had to drop out, we have 2 more great little books joining our swap! Betty Lou even brought supplies with her while on vacation so she could meet the deadline -wow! Below are her books.

The Outer Space one is fabric-paper, I believe?

The "Little Red Riding Hood" one is just adorable!

Thank you Betty Lou!
Betty wrote a note telling me how happy she was these books got made. Then she ended her note with, "Well, now they're yours for a little while. Thanks again" What a cool way to think about this process. Betty Lou is so right! I do enjoy opening all your packages and holding your books in my hands, even if just for a wee bit. ; ^ ) lenna

4x4 collage swap -Roads+Paths: Betty Lou Cassidy, New Jersey

Betty Lou's package came in today, just making the deadline, phew. She even sent her package Priority and it still took 3 days. The mail does seem to take its time arriving here in Cortez, FL. At least it is a little faster getting TO you; I will be swapping these 4x4's out soon and sending you your exchange pieces next week!

Take a look at the beautiful pieces Betty Lou put together; you can click on any one for more details.

Betty Lou wrote me that the words are a poem by Walt Whitman
The background path images are photos from a recent trip she took to Columbia via a cruise through the Panama canal!
Betty Lou tried painting Transparencies for the first time

Betty Lou is primarily a quilter who lectures & teaches workshops - her mixed media side really shines with these pieces!

Betty Lou, I am truly impressed! Thank you very much for the extra 4x4 for me (not required but appreciated!). This is Betty Lou's 7th swap with me, and I welcome her to participate in many more!
* Now, to try to choose a winner for the most creative in this swap. The lucky person will receive FREE registration to the next creative swap of their choice. I will be back with the winner! *

Alice in Wonderland ATC swap: Betty Lou Cassidy, New Jersey

Betty Lou Cassidy from NJ sent in some really interesting ATCs for our exchange. I really like them! Betty wrote me a letter and enclosed it with her ATCs; I will try to paraphrase.

She wrote to me that she found this assignment difficult because she usually enjoys doing a lot of beading and embellishment and felt she couldn't do that because of the baseball card pockets. Even though Betty Lou felt limited, I think she really came through on this challenge! Betty Lou made a collage background on felt, via the Pokey Bolton method (editor of Quilting Arts & Cloth Paper Scissors). She also decided to concentrate on transparencies, shrink art from rubber stamps and Alpha Stamps images and stickers. She says in her letter that she thinks it might be best to be one of the first "sendees" because she thought her ideas were very similar to those already sent in and featured on the creative swaps blog . . . I have to disagree!! I really think Betty Lou's Alice ATCs are quite original with the background she made, shrink art, use of transparencies, gold stitching around the edges and using a playing card (HEARTS = queen of Hearts!) for the back. Here are some more scans -click for more details.

Betty Lou added that this swap did get her to read the Alice in Wonderland story in it's entirety. She read it on the internet and got a copy from a local bookstore. She says she is also inspired to make an Alice in Wonderland book from what she has learned and seen here on the blog. For her ATCs, Betty Lou used Alpha Stamps clear stickers from the I Wonder sheet and the paper Alice in Wonderland Stickers. Very cool.

I love the Caterpillar!
Betty Lou made an extra for me . . . . thank you!

Star Ornament Swap! Betty Lou Cassidy - New Jersey

Betty Lou was so kind to write me an email when she sent her stars about how she made them . . .

"My little stars were made by embossing silver dryer duct tape (cut to fit ) inside a small paper mache' star-shaped box lid over a smaller die cut wooden star. I fine glittered the inside edges and another die cut wooden star for the back. I glued on square shisha mirrors for more sparkle. The front edge was trimmed with self-made cording strung with white pony beads that were attached at the points of the star. Finally a gold hanging cord was pushed through the top."

They are so petite and pretty! Thank you, Betty Lou!

Grimm fairytale 5x5 Collage swap: Betty Lou Cassidy

Betty Lou Cassidy from Egg Harbor Township, NJ is new to creative swaps -- and what a wonderful job she has done with her Cinderella-based 5x5 collages for our Alpha Stamps Grimm Brothers fairy tale swap! She has added beautiful elements to the base collage images like clocks, beads and gorgeous lace & trims . . . . and there is something else quite special on each collage - can you see it? Plus, Betty Lou has finished all the edges of her boards in a beautiful metallic almost molten gold. Then to wrap it all up she added a bit of the story to the back of her collages along with her info and the swap info - wonderful!

Enjoy Betty Lou's work below; click on any scan for more detail. Thank you Betty Lou ~really wonderful work.
