12x12 Fabric technique swap #7: Beverley Teichrob, Victoria, BC, CANADA

Wow! I received so many lovely mini art quilts for our fabric technique swap all in on day! This one is from my friend Beverley, who lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Beverley followed Frieda Oxenham's directions for making fabric paper but also told me . . .

"I followed the instructions from 'friedaquilter', except that the top layer includes the full quarter of four napkins to represent four seasons. I've never done much with rubber stamps, but love the effect of stamping on white tissue for layering. I included swirls and birds and music, although some are hidden under the layers. There are also some words from magazines layered beneath the paper napkins. I sprinkled too much glitter into the wet glue and used fine sandpaper to get rid of some of it after it was dry. 'Stickles' highlight the pine cone and two bird's eyes. I layered two green trims and sewed them in a grid to separate the napkins. I tried to choose appropriate florals/beads/stickers to suit the seasons. The border trim represents a garden trellis which remains in place through all the seasons. More florals were then added to soften the edges. I enjoyed the challenge to try new techniques with this swap."

I really do like Beverley's use of silk leaves and flowers in her piece. I would not have thought of doing that myself, but it works! Thanks, Bev : ))

Shades of the Forest Quilties - Bev Teichrob, Victoria BC

These wonderful Forest Quilties were delivered right to me by Bev Teichrob this past Saturday. Now, hand-delivery has happened to me before with swap participants who live nearby in the Avon, CT area, but the difference here is that Bev is from Victoria, British Columbia!

Bev has been here on the East Coast of the USA, traveling around the New England area with her husband who had a job to do here - for about a month. When she first arrived here from BC in September, she took a Collage class from me in my studio with 4 other women. It was great fun & you can read about it here. Bev asked if there was another class she could take before she headed back home and we arranged for a different class for her to do on October 18th - more on that later, on my creative lenna blog! When Bev came for class on that day, she brought her finished Shades of the Forest Quilties, all stiched by hand while she was traveling! She had prepared herself by bring the fabric & needed supplies with her and she said she quite enjoyed doing them. So much so that Bev created two sets of 4 quilties and and extra one for me. Thanks so much Bev, and I hope you have arrived home safely now. What a treat is was to meet you in person!

Shades of Sunshine Quilties: Beverley Teichrob ~ BC, Canada

These beautiful, colorful shades of sunshine are from Beverley Teichrob in Victoria, BC. This one to the right is my favorite, I think . . . I just love the heart! Bev & I will have the pleasure of meeting each other later this month when Bev travels to the East Coast with her husband. We've scheduled a collage class in my studio with a few local friends and students, wow! We are looking forward to it!

Row House Swap: Bev Teichrob ~ British Columbia, Canada

Wow! Here are Bev's little houses for our swap-I just love them. She created each one uniquely, and they just have a little special something about them, like the pink tea-bag wrapper one ; )
Something else special is . . . although Beverley lives in BC, Canada -she is coming east with her husband in September. They are visiting CT and RI, and so we have planned a Saturday class in my home studio for that day & Bev will attend. Now, that is special!

Itty Bitty Collage swap: Beverley Teichrob

From Beverley in Victoria, British Columbia we have 6 Itty Bitty collages, plus 2 extra for me -Thank you, dear Beverley! Bev wrote directions for her collages and copied them so she could include a set with each Itty Bitty collage. Great idea! Click on the pictures for more detail.









Bev also wrote me a note and said said she thought she was rather "literal" with our summer theme and was hoping to get a bit more abstract with the Row House swap. I am enjoying these collages Bev, and look forward to seeing what you do with the Row House swap too!

A note: I have about 5 Shades of spring Quilties packages waiting for me . . . . I should get those up on the blog in the next day or two -happy weekend : )

Shades of Spring/ Brown + Blue Quilties: Beverley Teichrob

Beverley hails from beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. I visited there a few years ago and remember being so impressed with all the beautiful flowers growing everywhere, even in the city. No wonder we find flowers on Beverley's brown & blue quilties! Take a look at the gorgeous, flowing design that Bev came up with for her shades of spring/brown & blue quilties. She has incorporated wonderful colors & textures (the birds nest) and she created 2 sets of 4 quilties plus an extra quiltie for me --so appreciated! I am not surprised that Bev made all her Quilties the same this time, as what she has come up with here, is a great plan. Thank you, Bev!

White Quilties! Beverley Teichrob

From Beverley Teichrob in Victoria, BC we have received TWO sets of white Quilties . . . plus, Beverley created an extra quiltie for me!! When I was speaking with Beverley via email, she told me she was going to create 3 sets of white quilties; 2 sets of 4 to send in for the swap and one set of 4 that she would keep to put together with the others thst she receives in trade via our swap! Beverley wrote, "We've just painted our small powder room a dark colour, and a "shades of white" art hanging should look great in there...12 of them to make a square, reflected in a new large round mirror."

Isn't that a great idea? One to tuck away if you are still making quilties for this swap (due here in my hands 4/26/08) or if you are involved in the Shades of Spring Quilties swap due July 19th . . . the July Quilties swap is closed now, but I am taking names on a waiting list in case someone has to drop out - you could take their place!

Fabric Bags so far . . .

Fabric Bag Swap - Beverley Teichrob: Victoria, BC, Canada

Beverley Teichrob's Fabric bag is here! It includes 16 different fabrics, fabric yo-yos, and multiple pockets that Beverley sewed herself. She said it ended up being so fun to create that now she was on a mission to make one for her daughter & granddaughter as Christmas gifts - lovely! I am so glad you enjoyed the challenge.

Garden ATC - Beverley Teichrob, Canada

The third set of ATCs for our Garden Fabric ATC swap arrived in my mailbox yesterday! These ATCs hail from Beverly Teichrob, who lives in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. I have had the pleasure of visiting Victoria BC, four years ago and was amazed at the all the multitudes of gorgeous flowers growing all over this beautiful city. No wonder Beverly signed up for this swap! She created 3 sets (of 3) fabric ATCs on a garden theme, and she will receive 9 different ones in return.
