Laura Hummel: Stitchie Swap!

From Laura Hummel in MD, some fun mail art (love it!) and 3 wonderful stitchies. Laura wrote me a note saying it was so much fun to be in one of my swaps again. Wow! This is Laura's 12th Creative Swap!! She also said she felt a little out of her comfort zone with hand stitching & fabric, but she could have fooled me!!

Lenna Andrews: All 3 Stitchies for the swap -done!

Well that's a good feeling. I finished my submission for the Stitchies Swap last night! 

All 3 of mine are on a blue-green - fish theme.

I used Fred Mullet rubber stamps that are made from actual fish prints. He has closed his shop after 25 years, but has info on nature printing and gyotaku here in a pdf.

I used a sparkly gel pen on this fish, and updated my other two stitchies as well. Below is what this fabric & fish looked like before sewing and adding pen marks . . . well, I see now it had a few marks, but not as many as when it was done!

When I started working I was not positive of what I would be doing and did not know all 3 of my stitchies would be blue-green or feature a stamped fish! On the first one (bottom with sea weed) the fish was already on the fabric I chose. It was a leftover "test" for stamping a silk scarf. I liked the fabric & the stamp on it and that is what sent me down this path! If you have not started yet and want to be included (in my hands by Feb 1st) then dive in and start! Register here. Stitchies don't take long to do and you will find your way as you work. Plus, it feels good to make them!

Siri Hauge Opdal: Stitchie Swap!

From Siri, in Norway! Siri started participating in Creative Swaps back in 2010. She has steadily joined my swaps through the years, lucky for us! This will be her 11th creative swap! In the sidebar of the blog there is a section called "Art by Participants". You can take a peek at all of Siri's swap art by clicking on her name - or here's a direct link. Of course, you can look at anyone's swap art -even yours, by looking in that section. If you are using a small device, a phone or a tablet -view the sidebar by touching the 3 green parallel lines on the top right when you are on the main page. - Now, on to Siri's stitchies! She sent in 3 orange-red, beautifully beaded stitchies for the swap and a lovely stitched thank you card.

I almost like the back as much as the front, as I can see what she did via her thread!



I remembered I had seen Siri's fabric art in Quilting Arts magazine and went to look it up. I found her piece called Silk and Buttons in a Reader's Challenge called "Favorite Things", February/March 2015 issue, page 49! Many Congrats, Siri!

Thank you all, for your own special talents that you are contributing to this creative swap. I am thrilled with the entries! We are up to 19 participants and I will keep registration open until 1/27 -a week from Monday, if you or someone you know is still on the fence. I will finish my last stitchie soon so all 3 will be done. Besides mine, I am only waiting for 11 now, to be here by Feb 1st!! ;O)

So lovely to find lots of stitchies for the swap landing in my mailbox now! I did a happy dance when my friend Jo Urbani's arrived from the UK this past weekend. :o)

Julie Welsh: Stitchie Swap ;0)

I can tell the fun is just beginning for me . . . soon all the swaps will start rolling in and it will be a delight to go out & get the mail! Today, I received these beauties from my friend Julie (jewels) Welsh, all the way from Michigan:

She made an info card and used washi tape to attach it to her stitchies. Brilliant! 

and they arrived in a great mail art envelope with a cool vintage card.

Nancy Roberts: Stitchie Swap!

Yesterday (12/26/19) I received Nancy Roberts 3 Stitchies (4"x 4") for our current creative swap. They are wonderful, thank you Nancy! I'm so glad you could join.

Nancy did 3 different color themes:

Fuchsia & Orange, Blue & Green and Blue & Orange.

I love all of her stitches, nice variety & everything looks great! 

She also sent a hostess gift (not required) of

these gorgeous "Boho Beads" she made herself.

Lenna Andrews: Stitchie for the swap!

I finished a second stitchie for our swap due Feb 1st, 2020! What?? 2020? YES! 

This stitchie was done in a blue-green color theme with a hint of pink. I used a similar but different Fred Mullet fish stamp, as I did for my first Stitchie. 

The first one I made (on the right) was done with a piece of leftover silk I had painted. The fish stamp was already on it as a test. For the 2nd one, I found a piece of leftover cotton that I had previously stamped the swirl and the starfish on with Lumiere paint. I added the stamped fish today!

I also wanted to let you know if you have not been to the creative swaps blog recently: https://creativeswaps.blogspot.com/ it will look a bit different. I changed templates to a more modern template that will display properly on a mobile device. I did not include ALL of the old swap info and probably will not publish it onto the new blog template, keeping it a bit cleaner. You can still check out any of the older swaps we have done or any of the swap pieces you done in the past with the drop-down collections in the side bar: "Swaps we have done" or "Participant Art". Please leave me any feedback if you like about the new template!
